On November 6 we will be hosting part two of a discussion of the important book, Treaty Elders of Saskatchewan, by Harold Cardinal and Walter Hildebrandt. For those who don’t have access to oral tradition, including many settlers, this book is the most accessible way to learn about the meaning of treaties from the Indigenous Elders who are the oral historians of treaty and the treaty relationship. Everyone who is interested in joining the conversation is welcome, and no prior participation is necessary.
Javed Sommers from KAIROS Prairies North will be guiding our exploration of the book. In the first Zoom session on Wednesday Oct 27 at 7:30pm, we’ll focus on understanding the history of treaties. In the second session on Saturday Nov 6 at 1:00pm, we’ll turn to the future of treaty relations. You can attend one or both!
Options for getting the book: Your local library; order a copy through the Office of the Treaty Commissioner here; Turning the Tide bookstore in Saskatoon
