DESCRIPTION:Licensed Lay Worship Leaders only – with Marg Janick-Grayston \nThe advent season takes us on a journey towards Christmas\, the ultimate symbol of hope\, love and giving.  For many of us it has become a time for family gatherings\, big feasts around the table\, and the exchange of gifts and hugs.  But\, with COVID\, and distancing\, and tiny bubbles of contact in our midst\, we may feel more like Ebenezer Scrooge whose response to Christmas was “Bah Humbug” because it lacked meaning for him.  With everything that is going on\, it may feel harder for us this year to enter this season with hope-filled anticipation.  In our time together we will be checking into our “internal weather forecast” to see how we\, and the communities of faith we relate to\, are entering the Advent Season.  Secondly\, we will consider why this season overflows with hope from a historical perspective\, and where hope is showing up today.  Lastly\, we will review some research information on the negative and positive effects of faith in a time of crisis\, and brainstorm ways to acknowledge people’s struggles\, as well as embrace our faith in the most positive of ways to reconnect us with hope.

DESCRIPTION:Palestinian families live in constant awareness that Israeli soldiers could invade their house at any hour of the day or night and take a child away – often for arbitrary reasons and for an unknown length of time. Every year an average of 700 Palestinian children are arrested\, mistreated\, detained and prosecuted in Israel’s military court system. According Defense for Children International Palestine (a United Church partner in mission). Israel is the only country in the world that systematically prosecutes children in military courts. To learn more about the day-to-day reality of the children and their families\, plan to join this 90-minute online workshop. SUMMARY:Rendez-Vous 2020 Re-Imagined!
DESCRIPTION:Rendez-Vous 2020 will be going ahead 11-14 August 2020 – just in a different way. \n2020 is turning out to be a year of the unexpected and that means Rendez-vous 2020 will be a Rendez-vous unlike any other. Due to the ongoing health crisis\, we won’t be able to hold a large gathering in Calgary this summer. It’s up to us to dream together what it means to be a community of faith\, even if we can’t all be in the same (physical) space. \nOnline registration is now open! Registration is free of charge\, but helps us keep track of participants and provide secure access to online activities and resources. \nThrough real-time online events\, recordings\, and DIY workshop kits\, we will celebrate bold faith\, brave space and brazen grace. Here’s what you can expect: \n\nInspiring speakers\, powerful worship and singing your favorite songs\nFun\, engaging and interactive workshops and activities\nNew friends from across the country and around the world\nAwesome t-shirts (yep\, it will be a Rendez-vous to remember!)

SUMMARY:New Hymns for New Times
DESCRIPTION:As a participant in “New Hymns for New Times” you will become a part of an online congregation as we sing\, play\, listen and share our way through these unique and unfamiliar times.  A new hymn prepared by Janicka Grayston will be sent to you before each gathering so you may familiarize yourself with it if you wish.  When we gather\, we will sing it together\, and take a moment for compassionate listening and sharing about the ways worship and hope are showing up for one another.
