SUMMARY:Learning gathering on unmarked burials
DESCRIPTION:Our Sacred Responsibilities: learning from the Unmarked Burials report and challenging settler denial. \nAll people of all backgrounds welcome to this day-long learning gathering\, open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. We will focus somewhat on the United Church’s responsibilities\, but all backgrounds are welcome as a full part of the day\, and we will not focus only on the United Church. \nTogether we will learn about the recent report on unmarked burials; explore what reparations means; learn about the problem of settler denialism; and practice together how to challenge it. Speakers and knowledge keepers will help us\, and all who come are full participants in helping each other and our communities create a good path forward. \nCommunity\, prayer\, ceremony\, and cultural supports will be part of our day. A separate support space is also available to First Nations\, Métis and Inuit\, respecting that this is a hard topic. \nPractical details\nPlease click here to register. Registration is free but required\, so we can plan for meals.  \nThe full reports from the Office of the Special Interlocutor on Unmarked Burials are available here. (They’re long\, which is one of the reasons we’re offering this learning space.) \n Click here for a poster to share with your community . You can also use the image at the top of this page. \nResource people: Dr Raven Sinclair;  Sara Stratton\, Reconciliation and Justice Animator at the General Council of the United Church; elders TBC. \nPlan for our day: 9:30 gathering and coffee; program begins at 10:00AM; we will finish no later than 4:00PM. Our day will include (among other things): prayer and ceremony; an overview of key parts of the report on unmarked burials; reflection from a survivor; what do we and the report mean by “reparations”; what is settler denial\, and how can we challenge it? \nOur space: The building is fully accessible\, and we will be using mics to assist those with hearing needs. Smudging and medicines will be part of our day. There is some parking on site\, and transit a block away. Lunch and snacks included. \nTravel costs for First Nations\, Métis\, and Inuk participants will be covered. \nOrganized by Indigenous Ministries and Justice of the United Church of Canada\, and by Living Skies Regional Council\, UCC. Thank you to Station 20 West for hosting.

SUMMARY:World Food Day: Prophetic voice and the peoples of the land
DESCRIPTION:Listening for God’s prophetic voice amongst the people of the land\nJoin us for World Food Day\, a more important focus than ever as armed conflict causes great hunger around the world. SUMMARY:Biblical history and promised land
DESCRIPTION:The Ethics of Reading Biblical History: Cover Stories on Stolen Land\, Sunday October 6\, 7:00PM CST\, in person in Saskatoon and on YouTube. \nJoin us for a presentation by Biblical scholar and Professor Rev. Bill Richards looking at the context of the Prophets of the Jewish Bible\, and the ethics behind the concept of “Promised Land” and chosen people. We’ll look at history from the arrival of enslaved Hebrews in Palestine to the collapse of their various states at the hands of imperial powers.  Over time other imperial interests have read themselves into this “conquest narrative”\, as a cover story for their own colonizing projects here in the Americas\, and in Australia\, Africa\, and Palestine. These interpretations ignore significant voices within the Jewish Bible that challenge us to look at how “chosen people” should live with their neighbours. In person at Grace-Westminster United Church\, or on their YouTube channel. Hybrid conversation after. \nThis event is part of a focus on the Palestinian olive harvest and the current situation in the land. Please click here for more details and resources.

SUMMARY:Living Skies sharing and support circle re Sept 4 tragedy
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a circle of support\, grief\, and sharing on Thursday September 15 from 6:30PM to approximately 8:00PM. The link information is below. Please share this invitation with your community of faith and with all who need it; people do not need to be United Church to attend. We only ask that you not post the Zoom information to social media or other public places; please share it by email only. \nThe extreme violence of Sunday September 4 in the James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon communities will be with us always. It rests with the memories of those lost\, those injured\, the trauma in the affected communities\, and so many questions about causes\, prevention\, and different paths into a future with less violence. \nWhile these questions don’t have answers or solutions\, we know that sitting with trauma and distress\, and supporting one another for the long term\, are key to healing. Our faith also calls us into relationships of love and support\, and living as though all are our family throughout the world. We have the promise that where we gather\, Jesus the Healer is with us. \nAt this circle\, we will share silence\, prayer\, and words with each other. No one will be obliged to speak- simply listening is welcome. And you will have space to speak if you wish. \nThank you in advance the people who will help us hold the space: Darrell Reine\, Regional Council chair will host the circle; Rev Michele Rowe (trauma informed ministry); chaplain Rev Emily Carr; other chaplains and support people to be confirmed. \nTime: Sep 15\, 2022 06:30 PM Saskatchewan \nhttps://united-church.zoom.us/j/83854932861?pwd=eUNMbUNqTkpnUnphb3Z5b3hMYVlBZz09 \nMeeting ID: 838 5493 2861 \nPassword: 819114 \n+1 778 907 2071 Canada \n+1 438 809 7799 Canada \n+1 587 328 1099 Canada \n+1 647 374 4685 Canada \n+1 647 558 0588 Canada \n855 703 8985 Canada Toll-free
