SUMMARY:Learning gathering on unmarked burials
DESCRIPTION:Our Sacred Responsibilities: learning from the Unmarked Burials report and challenging settler denial. \nAll people of all backgrounds welcome to this day-long learning gathering\, open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. We will focus somewhat on the United Church’s responsibilities\, but all backgrounds are welcome as a full part of the day\, and we will not focus only on the United Church. \nTogether we will learn about the recent report on unmarked burials; explore what reparations means; learn about the problem of settler denialism; and practice together how to challenge it. Speakers and knowledge keepers will help us\, and all who come are full participants in helping each other and our communities create a good path forward. \nCommunity\, prayer\, ceremony\, and cultural supports will be part of our day. A separate support space is also available to First Nations\, Métis and Inuit\, respecting that this is a hard topic. \nPractical details\nPlease click here to register. Registration is free but required\, so we can plan for meals.  \nThe full reports from the Office of the Special Interlocutor on Unmarked Burials are available here. (They’re long\, which is one of the reasons we’re offering this learning space.) \n Click here for a poster to share with your community . You can also use the image at the top of this page. \nResource people: Dr Raven Sinclair;  Sara Stratton\, Reconciliation and Justice Animator at the General Council of the United Church; elders TBC. \nPlan for our day: 9:30 gathering and coffee; program begins at 10:00AM; we will finish no later than 4:00PM. Our day will include (among other things): prayer and ceremony; an overview of key parts of the report on unmarked burials; reflection from a survivor; what do we and the report mean by “reparations”; what is settler denial\, and how can we challenge it? \nOur space: The building is fully accessible\, and we will be using mics to assist those with hearing needs. Smudging and medicines will be part of our day. There is some parking on site\, and transit a block away. Lunch and snacks included. \nTravel costs for First Nations\, Métis\, and Inuk participants will be covered. \nOrganized by Indigenous Ministries and Justice of the United Church of Canada\, and by Living Skies Regional Council\, UCC. DESCRIPTION:A one-day Spring Women’s Gathering is being planned for Saturday\, April 26 at St. David’s Trinity Church in Saskatoon from 10 to 3:30.  This is for ALL women in Living Skies Region.  The worship service will include communion and a memorial for those women who have passed away in the last year but have contributed to the church in many ways during their life span.  Please send memorials to Barb Byers Bradley.  Because the theme is the Centennial of The United Church of Canada we are also inviting those attending to bring a historical item from your church or wardrobe. \nThe Annual meeting will also take place.  Please remember that we are looking for a secretary and a second vice-president.  If you or you know of someone who might be interested in either of these positions\, please contact any member of the executive. \nWe will again be having a silent auction\, so please consider donating an item or bring a group item for the silent auction. \nThe executive will be meeting again on February 27 to finalize plans for the Gathering.

SUMMARY:Singing Our Way through the United Church History with Hymns – 100th Anniversary Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Please mark your calendars and plan to join us at Saltcoats United Church on Sunday May 4th when we sing our way through the story of The United Church of Canada as told in the hymns we sing and the hymns we\, and others\, have sung. Walter Farquharson\, retired minister\, hymnwriter\, and educator\, will provide some history of hymn singing over 2000 years but mostly we will sing\, or listen to others sing\, some great hymns. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. There will be an intermission and social time with refreshments. We will move into the second part of the presentation and singing and then everything will wrap up at 9:00 p.m. We are excited about participants who will be offering their gifts of music in solo or group!\nNo admission charge. An offering box will be available. Any money given will support the Saltcoats United Church Re-shingling Project. Receipt will be given to anyone requesting one.\nEveryone is welcome. No requirement to show United Church credentials! Plan to be part of this\, and please pass the word to family and friends.
