SUMMARY:Stand by Me: Palestinian Children and Military Detention – A workshop
DESCRIPTION:Palestinian families live in constant awareness that Israeli soldiers could invade their house at any hour of the day or night and take a child away – often for arbitrary reasons and for an unknown length of time. Every year an average of 700 Palestinian children are arrested\, mistreated\, detained and prosecuted in Israel’s military court system. According Defense for Children International Palestine (a United Church partner in mission). Israel is the only country in the world that systematically prosecutes children in military courts. To learn more about the day-to-day reality of the children and their families\, plan to join this 90-minute online workshop. SUMMARY:Regional Gathering Meeting #2
DESCRIPTION:The second of 2 evenings to deal with the business portion of the Annual Gathering.  Lay Delegate from each community of faith will be invited to participate in the 2 nights – October 28 and November 4\, 2020 to discuss\, to discern and to decide on the business presented.  Tonight’s Zoom call will continue with the business matters that are to be dealt with and decisions will be made. \nEach evening will start at 6:30 with a short time for set up to allow for instructions for the meeting ( how to name yourself\, how to vote\, etc)  with the actual business portion\, including decision making  being held from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.   \nPlease watch the Regional Gathering page (link is on the front page of the Living Skies website  —   livingskiesrc.ca ) and the Regional Rambler newsletter for more details.

SUMMARY:Entering Advent in a time of Crisis: Bah Humbug or Hope-Filled Anticipation?
DESCRIPTION:Ministry personnel only with Marg Janick-Grayston \nThe advent season takes us on a journey towards Christmas\, the ultimate symbol of hope\, love and giving.  For many of us it has become a time for family gatherings\, big feasts around the table\, and the exchange of gifts and hugs.  But\, with COVID\, and distancing\, and tiny bubbles of contact in our midst\, we may feel more like Ebenezer Scrooge whose response to Christmas was “Bah Humbug” because it lacked meaning for him.  With everything that is going on\, it may feel harder for us this year to enter this season with hope-filled anticipation.  In our time together we will be checking into our “internal weather forecast” to see how we\, and the communities of faith we relate to\, are entering the Advent Season.  Secondly\, we will consider why this season overflows with hope from a historical perspective\, and where hope is showing up today.  Lastly\, we will review some research information on the negative and positive effects of faith in a time of crisis\, and brainstorm ways to acknowledge people’s struggles\, as well as embrace our faith in the most positive of ways to reconnect us with hope.

SUMMARY:Advent Conversations Around the Fire: Igniting Sparks of Creative Contemplation on Hope\, Peace\, Joy and Love
DESCRIPTION:A zoom based retreat that offers time to reflect on advent themes around the light of a candle\, express the themes creatively at a contemplative pace\, and harvest deeper awareness about hope\, peace\, joy and love through sharing together. We will spend the first hour on zoom sharing and reflecting on stories \, poems\, songs\, quotes\, symbols\, meditations and/or experiences that focus on each of the themes on separate days\, followed by a couple of hours to go off and contemplate and create. The last hour will be spent back on zoom for a time of sharing which will help us continue reflecting with greater depth as we create an advent altar to guide us spiritually through each week. Upon leaving\, we will have many new insights sparked by wonderful conversations and creative expressions that began around the light of a candle\, which we can integrate into our personal lives and/or worship planning.
