DESCRIPTION:The Stones Cry Out (2013) film viewing\, Tuesday\, October 29TH at 7:00 pm CST\, in person at Grace-Westminster United Church\, Saskatoon\, with in person discussion after. This documentary lifts up the voices of Palestinian Christians who are often left out of coverage of the military occupation of Palestine. Although they are a small minority\, Palestinian Christians have played a critical role in the territory’s history and\, as Palestine is the birthplace of Christianity\, this community has a global significance for Christians. \nThe film covers Palestinian Christians’ experiences from 1948 to the modern era\, including the effects of the Israeli military occupation on Bethlehem. **For those who cannot attend in person and want to view this film you can view online for free here. \nTo have your own discussion group on this timely topic and as follow-up to the film\, see the document Stones Cry Out Discussion . \nOrganized by the Just Peace Palestine Israel working group of Living Skies\, and Mennonite Church SK.

As our local harvests from land and water are gathered in\, come out and learn what we can do for neighbours in need. \nRick Block and Miriam Harder\, colleagues at the Canadian Foodgrains Bank\, will share historical and current contexts from Canada and the Palestinian Territories exploring how land\, identity\, and conflict can create tragic circumstances- but also springs of hope\, resilience\, and unity. \nThis will be a participatory event and will include table group discussions for in-person and online participants\, as well as various calls to action and prayer. DESCRIPTION:The Ethics of Reading Biblical History: Cover Stories on Stolen Land\, Sunday October 6\, 7:00PM CST\, in person in Saskatoon and on YouTube. \nJoin us for a presentation by Biblical scholar and Professor Rev. Bill Richards looking at the context of the Prophets of the Jewish Bible\, and the ethics behind the concept of “Promised Land” and chosen people. We’ll look at history from the arrival of enslaved Hebrews in Palestine to the collapse of their various states at the hands of imperial powers.  Over time other imperial interests have read themselves into this “conquest narrative”\, as a cover story for their own colonizing projects here in the Americas\, and in Australia\, Africa\, and Palestine. These interpretations ignore significant voices within the Jewish Bible that challenge us to look at how “chosen people” should live with their neighbours. DESCRIPTION:Let’s kick off fall with another amazing YAYAC Retreat! If you’re in grades 7-12\, this is your opportunity to make some new friends\, enjoy our (hopefully) last bit of warm weather at Lumsden Beach Camp\, and have an amazing time. \nJoin us at Lumsden Beach Camp (LBC) September 27-29 for a weekend of faith and spirituality\, games and laughter\, and a chance to talk about the stuff that’s going on in YOUR world.  There will be opportunities for fun and loud exuberance\, as well as quiet reflection\, creativity and conversation. \nWe’ll send a more detailed packing list closer to the event\, but you’ll need warm clothes and a sleeping bag and mat!
