DESCRIPTION:This is an online book launch for \nHope Peace Unrest: The Holy Spirit in the Korean Community in The United Church of Canada\, \nthe latest book from An Intercultural Adventure\, a series of seminars primarily for Koreans in The United Church of Canada. It seeks to describe the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Korean community in the United Church.  It argues that the Spirit is present in different modes or ways.  The focus here is on how the Spirit is present as a source of hope and peace for Koreans\, and also as unrest.  All people of all backgrounds are invited.    Register here. \nThe book is available in Korean or English. Five facilitators led by Iris Acoose from Yorkton Tribal Council will help us understand colonization from the indigenous perspective. The morning session (9:30 to 11:30) will have 35 grades 9 and 10 students from Wolseley and Broadview High Schools and up to 15 adults. The afternoon session (12:30 to 2:30) will have 46 grade 7 to 9 students from Wolseley and a limited number of adults.

The authors discuss the marginality that Koreans experience in Canada and also examines how Jesus enables Koreans to withstand this\, and live prophetically in their liminal situation. It is meant as a thank you to all those who have supported our ministry over the years.  We are asking your participation as we can not do it alone. \nThere may be some traditional teachings during the feast.  Our leading Elder will be Kokum Bea (Beatrice Laframboise).  I Rev. Deb have chosen Kokum Bea as it is my belief our woman were once the leaders in our communities before colonization\, Kokum Bea agrees with me that as woman we need to take back what was taken from our people in various areas of our Traditional Ways. \nThe Feast: June 4\, 2022 @ 1:00pm \nWhere:      Wascana Park across from Saskatchewan Museum \nWhat is a Traditional Feast?\nA Traditional feast is a celebration of various important events within a community: \nthe birth of a child \nthe death of a person \nthe anniversary of the death of a person (held 4 years in a row after the death\, the 4th year includes a give away) \nthe accomplishment of a person or the community (we have accomplished much with your support) \nWhat does a Traditional Feast entail? \nThe gathering of a community (you & us)\, all in the community come together with food and ceremony lead by an Elder. The food is prepared by the women of the community\, it is laid out by the men of the community. \nCallout to the men\nWe need 9 men from the church communities to be servers of the food. There are certain details these men need to know in the duties as server. Please send me names from your community so I can meet with them at least a week before the feast to give instruction. (306) 519-7840 or glammergirl@live.com \nA word to the women\nWomen\, please wear a long skirt that reaches between your knees and ankles or down to your ankle\, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a ribbon skirt. It is important that if you sit on the ground in your skirt that you either sit with your legs straight out or both turned to the side. do not sit with your legs crossed.  The Old Lady (great-grandmother) taught my sisters and I that. If a woman sits with her legs crossed she is opening herself to evil/bad things. If you are Two Spirit or LBGTQIA you are invited to wear a skirt or not as you wish\, and to choose where you sit. \nFoods Needed\nNo pork allowed \nSoup: 6-8 pots \nBannock: if you know how to make feel free to bring it. Sometimes\, icebergs that look far away from each other on the surface can bump into each other under the water – sometimes gently\, sometimes causing damage. \nFor our coffee and chai conversation this month\, we are going to explore the cultural iceberg that we call the clergy collar.  On the surface\, it might seem like a small thing\, a symbol of office that some clergy intentionally wear and others do not.  Some church members and people in the general public are comforted by it\, others are puzzled by it\, others are traumatized by it.  Some clergy are comfortable wearing it\, and others are not.  All of our responses to this visible symbol of office are informed by our values\, our histories\, our stories\, our power in society – those often unseen things that exist beneath the water lines of our lives.  Let’s get together for meaningful conversation\, and explore who we are as an intercultural community\, through the lens of the cultural iceberg we call the clergy collar. Here’s one suggested reading\, which may reflect the views of many in the church. And we’ll explore more views together.
