SUMMARY:For the Love of Creation: Talking about climate change in SK
DESCRIPTION:Faithful Climate Conversations \nWe need to talk — all of us — about climate. \nWhat better place to open up this vital conversation than within our own circles of faith? “For the Love of Creation” invites faith communities across Canada to come together to reflect\, listen\, share\, and advocate for climate justice. \nTuesday\, February 23rd\, 7 to 9 p.m. via Zoom \nRegister at https://bit.ly/370ekSr\nHere in Saskatchewan\, the listening part will be crucial\, and for that\, FLC offers three discussion guides for small groups. Join us to explore the first guide\, “Creation\, Climate and You\,” and get ready to use these guides in your own community. \nOur evening together will follow the guide’s agenda\, including breakout rooms for the discussion portions so we can experience the small-group format. We’ll conclude with a sharing time where you can exchange ideas and inspiration to help you launch your own “Faithful Climate Conversations.” \nPresented by KAIROS Regina. SUMMARY:Taste of Palestine 2: traditional food under occupation
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Gatsi\, via Canva. \nEnjoy learning (virtual) hands on about Palestinian traditional food\, and the realities of living and eating under military occupation or blockade. Claire Anastas will be our second host\, on November 2 at 10:30AM. She lives under military occupation on the West Bank and\, we hope\, will come to us live from there. \nPlease register here to get the Zoom link\, which will be sent automatically. Remember to check your email spam folder! \nWhy this event? Fall is harvest time throughout the Northern hemisphere\, and in Palestine and Israel\, the October olive harvest is a deeply important time for community\, culture\, and traditional food for the coming year. But it’s also a time where violence directed at Palestinian farmers spikes to new levels\, as radical Jewish settlers target olive trees and harvesters. The World Council of Churches offers extensive videos and photos in a special project launched last year\, and you can use these freely in your community of faith. \nNew for this year\, and accompanying our Taste events: The Palestine Service for Peace was created by the Saskatchewan and Ontario Taste of Palestine Group\, and compiled and edited by Ineke Medcalf. It’s available on YouTube- use freely in your worship services.

SUMMARY:Western Intercultural Network conversation and AGM
DESCRIPTION:Encountering the Intercultural Iceberg: the Clergy Collar! Speakers Rev Lee Spice\, Rev Piotr (Peter) Strzelecki VDM\, and resource people from the WIMN executive\, followed by conversation and a short AGM for the Network.\n\nJoin the Western Intercultural Ministry Network as we explore the cultural iceberg –specifically\, the clergy collar. What values\, histories\, stories\, power dynamics lie below the surface and the water lines of our lives when we see the clergy collar? Let’s talk Intercollartural Ministry together! (Scroll down for a fuller introduction.) \nAll welcome- all identities and all people on the intercultural learning journey. Click here to see the mandate and terms of reference for our network. \nOur network crosses many time zones. Here’s our timing: 11:30AM – 1:30PM (PDT)\, BC\n12:30PM – 2:30PM (MDT/ CST)- AB and SK\n1:30PM – 3:30PM (CDT)\, MB and parts of NW Ontario\n2:30PM – 4:30PM (EDT) ON and QC \nZoom link here.\nMeeting ID: 961 7898 5162\nPassword: 279621 \n+1 647 558 0588 Canada\n+1 778 907 2071 Canada\n+1 438 809 7799 Canada\n+1 587 328 1099 Canada\n+1 647 374 4685 Canada\n855 703 8985 Canada Toll-free \nIntro to our topic: In intercultural work\, we often refer to the cultural iceberg.  With icebergs\, only the top of the iceberg is visible on top of the ocean\, while under the waterline the iceberg may be vast\, deep and wide.  Often\, the most important parts of ourselves may be hidden beneath the waterline\, and encountering those can bring us into richer and more respectful relationship with each other. Sometimes\, icebergs that look far away from each other on the surface can bump into each other under the water – sometimes gently\, sometimes causing damage. \nFor our coffee and chai conversation this month\, we are going to explore the cultural iceberg that we call the clergy collar.  On the surface\, it might seem like a small thing\, a symbol of office that some clergy intentionally wear and others do not.  Some church members and people in the general public are comforted by it\, others are puzzled by it\, others are traumatized by it.  Some clergy are comfortable wearing it\, and others are not.  All of our responses to this visible symbol of office are informed by our values\, our histories\, our stories\, our power in society – those often unseen things that exist beneath the water lines of our lives.  Let’s get together for meaningful conversation\, and explore who we are as an intercultural community\, through the lens of the cultural iceberg we call the clergy collar. Here’s one suggested reading\, which may reflect the views of many in the church. And we’ll explore more views together.

SUMMARY:Annual Gathering of United Network for Justice and Peace in Palestine and Israel (UNJPPI)
DESCRIPTION:In line with our United Church call to ‘Bold Discipleship\, Deep Spirituality\, Daring Justice’\, the theme of this year’s UNJPPI Gathering is “Responding to a Cry for Hope”. That is the Call which was issued in 2019 by Kairos Palestine and Palestinian Christians. \nThe UNJPPI Gathering will be in London\, Ontario from May 6 to 8\, with a community event at King’s College on May 5. \nWorking in the spirit of decolonization\, most of our leadership will be Palestinian as we try to decolonize our work and listen to Palestinians talk to us out of their experience. They include:\n• Yara Shufani – a Palestinian Canadian on “Unity Uprisings 2021 – A Year Later”\n• Shadia Qubti – whose home is Nazareth and who has been studying in Canada since 2020. “Peace-building beyond dipping humus”.\n• Amal Alhaddad – who lives in Victoria and has recently emigrated from Gaza.\n• Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac\, from Bethlehem\, in via technology speaking on “Jesus’ call to be peace-builders”\n• Dr. Gabor Mate will also address our gathering by zoom on “Would you rather be illusioned or see things as they really are”.\n• Mariam Barghouti – a journalist from Ramallah on “What is happening right now? How voices of Palestinians are being silenced”. \nWe will learn together from what our resource people have to say as well as each participant\, as we share our experiences\, insights and understanding. \nWe hope to be encouraged and re-vitalized in our support of human rights for Palestinians and justice and peace for Israelis and Palestinians. \nFor more information\, check the Gathering website at unjppi.ca or email George Bartlett at g.bartlett@sympatico.ca.

SUMMARY:Palestine Land Exercise @ Lafleche United Church
DESCRIPTION:Lafleche is hosting the Palestine Land Exercise on Saturday\, March 21st from 1-4 PM. The Palestine Land Exercise is an experiential learning activity of 2 and a half hours overall with a snack break included. It’s designed for 25 to 30 participants that sit around a large fabric map and unveil the story of Palestine starting from the time the British were there to the present time. The story progresses through cards that participants read aloud. At the end of the exercise\, there will be a talking circle where it will be possible to ask questions and express one’s impressions of the activity. The final topic is “What do we do next?” and a power point will be shown to conclude the exercise. To reserve your spot\, please call Judy Reiman (306-648-8270) or Beth Tallon (306-472-7816). Cost is $10/participant to cover the cost of mileage for our presenters.
